The baby bounce

There are many techniques that can help to soothe an uncomfortable baby. One of my go to soothing techniques for newborns and beyond is the baby bounce. If you think about the little one that was just inside the womb for 9 months, you can imagine the constant movement that they experienced. If we try to create that movement outside of the womb it can help to soothe them as they feel they are safe and snug in that womb again.
Newborn, the teeny tiny ones: Because these ones are still so tiny it is usually manageable to hold baby by supporting their head and their little bottom. This allows them to feel the gravity more. And then bounce or squat up and down, side to side. Think of the easy exercise you are getting :)
For 10 weeks and beyond: I find it is best to position baby in a cradle hold. If they are not swaddled in a blanket it can sometimes be comfortable to have one of their arms hanging down below the caregivers arm. Get those legs in a wide squat position and start bouncing back and forth, side to side.
Shooshing while doing the baby bounce is also effective!
